Photo Of The Day: KJ By Dan Carilllo

Had the pleasure of being shot by Seattle Photographer Dan Carillo. Dan has been working on a series of Northwest Artist Portraits shot using his 11x14 DearDorf View Camera. The camera has been modified to shoot 8x10 Wet Plate Collodion Ambrotypes which is what you see above. Truly an honor to be part of the series and even cooler to watch the process in action. I really respect the amount of time and patience these portraits require from both Dan and the subjects (Some exposures requiring stillness for 5-10 seconds). Check out more of his work here: Dan Carillo Flickr

Capitol Hill Block Party

(CHBP 2008)
I'm not shooting CHBP this year but excited to go enjoy it as a fan/resident for one night. Friday is my favorite local lineup including a few of my favorites I have had the pleasure to shoot Portraits of this year. If your braving the crowds today, don't miss Shabazz Palaces, Fences, & Macklemore.

Wallpaper* Handmade

Honored to have had my first job with Wallpaper* Magazine. Documenting the paint process of their Kinfolk Track Frame for the new August Handmade Issue. Traveled down to COAT paint in Portland, OR for the shoot. Eric & The guys at COAT were super cool and amazingly talented. Im a bit jealous I didn't get to shoot the final product shot of the built bike in the UK which turned out AMAZING in the spread. Definitely go pick up a copy this month!

JOIN'ed by Design

I was approached about shooting some Profile Portraits of the 8 Seattle Design Company's heading to NYC for the August Gift Fair. I was really excited for this project not only to try and give them a clean, consistent series of Portraits for them to use but also to meet each of the talented designers and shoot them in their own areas. Using the same principles of good lines/color/composition they use in their products. Whether it be in their work studios or homes. I'm really happy with the results and the following are my favorite of each Designer or Team including Iacocli & Mccallister, Free Time Industries, Grain, Ladies & Gentlemen, Erich Ginder, Urbancase, Chikabird, & Blk Pine workshop/Maiden Noir.

Photo Of The Day: For Mom

My mom bought a large square format frame awhile back. Being full Italian, she decided she would save it for a special shot from my trip to Italy. I finally decided on a print that i felt would do the frame justice. This was that shot. A Simple sunset shot in the La Marche Region's countryside that will always remind me of the trip and the country.

Chain Gang

Recently photographed my Girlfriend and her fellow ladies of Free Time Industries newest Line. The Chain Gang Necklaces/Bracelets. Made with Re-Purposed leather. Kate and I thought out a mood/feeling for the shoot and had a perfect styling compliment to it thanks to Ashley Helvey.. The photos will be part of a more complete look book but here are a few of my initial favorites.

BECU Commercial Bursting

Proud to see the second round of BECU Commercials I've helped with out on the Airwaves. Working with Digital Kitchen/DNA shooting the Burst Mode still frames seen in the spot's. Aside from actually being a great bank, its nice to see a company that launches a more honest, stylish ad campaign than most.

Photo Of The Day

Recently shot photographer Andrew Waits in his studio for a personal project I'm working on. This digital test shot is much different than the Final Portrait but I love it for different reasons.

Inspiration: 3 Local Artists not to be missed...

Too an enjoyable art gallery tour via bicycle yesterday with the homie jay aka FanKult. Who has a show of his own up right now. I was extremely impressed by his work as well as 2 other Seattle young artists who are recieving national exposure. Make time to swing by the following galleries during July.

1. Lawrimore Project Presents: Isaac Layman 110%
This local photographer has created some stunning large photo prints of everyday objects that look hardly ordinary in these photos. Through layering multiple scans of 4x5's Isaac has created one of the coolest shows I've seen in awhile. Really draws you in and makes you see much more than you ever did from things like Otter Pops, Hot Dog Package, or my favorite; a Door Knob/Keyhole titled Basement. Lawrimore project is one of, if not the nicest art spaces in town. Couldn't imagine a better home for this show

2. Greg Kucera Gallery Presents: Walleyed by: Tennis Whiting.
I'm a little behind on this one as it isnt the galleries primary focus during July. However many of the pieces are still on display including my two favorites including Mastadon & Pegboard Painting. Some of the most original and beautiful paintings, sculptures, and drawings ive seen in awhile. See it in person while you can.

3. Pun(c)tuation Gallery presents FANKULT's Cry Me A River...And Go Drown In It
Jay's Collage work really came together for this show. I think its some of the most honest, edgy, response drawing art being made in Seattle. From a man who knows his stuff inside and out. His piece titles & attention (or lack of attention) to the details makes it stand out.

Abandoned Tomb in South Seattle

Well..Not an abandoned tomb exactly but an art installation entitled Tomb by Lars aka No Touching Ground. Him & NKO (Neko) recently collaborated with a friend/Photographer Dan Hawkins to make the piece in an anonymous south seattle abandoned factory. Jen Graves wrote a nice piece in the Stranger awhile back HERE. I recently toured the space myself and got a few photos for my own record. Few of the digitals:

Photo Of The Day: 1 Year Ago

Bryce Canyon From my road trip this time last year.
I'm itching to hit the road for some short photo-related trips this summer. Feels like summer is finally gonna hit the NW and i cant think of a better way to enjoy it than seeing new scenery and taking some photos.

Photo Of The Day:

From a recent shoot with Ande Faye. She left to NYC the day after our shoot. I wish her the best of luck out there. The shoot was involving an idea about patterns/shapes I'll post up soon but this oddball bw closeup shot turned out really special.
