Wallpaper* Magazine November 2010

Excited to have two portraits in the new November issue of Wallpaper*. Two really fun shoots including another excuse to travel to Portland.

I documented the build of Seattle Artist/Designer Roy McMakin's handmade wooden floor project. The printed portrait shows Roy and the final product but a special online gallery will be live soon on Wallpaper.com showing some of the process shots.

Portland's shoot was of the little americana inspired bar "The Fixin-To". Owners Bart Blasengame and his wife Marli were really rad people. Even made me one of those signature cocktails their drinking after the shoot.

JOIN'ed by Design

I was approached about shooting some Profile Portraits of the 8 Seattle Design Company's heading to NYC for the August Gift Fair. I was really excited for this project not only to try and give them a clean, consistent series of Portraits for them to use but also to meet each of the talented designers and shoot them in their own areas. Using the same principles of good lines/color/composition they use in their products. Whether it be in their work studios or homes. I'm really happy with the results and the following are my favorite of each Designer or Team including Iacocli & Mccallister, Free Time Industries, Grain, Ladies & Gentlemen, Erich Ginder, Urbancase, Chikabird, & Blk Pine workshop/Maiden Noir.

Photo & Poster

Got some 35mm film back with a bunch of random stuff on it from my Nikon FM.. Forgot how amazing this bathroom was in color. The black and whites fit the whole concept much better but this image is close to my heart as well.

Also-Wanted to post a lovely poster from my friend Naomi She is a 2nd quarter Graphic Design student at Seattle Central and has really been doing some great work, especially for so early in her program. This Lou Dorfsman poster captures the essence of the legendary CBS designers style and look while also implementing a touch of her own. Looking forward to seeing her progress and post more work.

Inspiration!

Stumbled across this series by French Designer/Photographer Duo HELMO. The Animal/Human portraits lit with various gel's and superimposed on each other are so impressive yet so simple. I really love these!

Popular Noise Foscil Release

My buddy Byron over at The Journal of Popular Noise has done it again. I first worked with Byron on Truckasaurus's Relase then again on The Flexions-Leasure Time LP

His new layout for Foscil-Residential looks gorgeous. Order This limited letter pressed beauty today. Its so refreshing to see such thought and design going into an analog musical release.

Creative Couples

My recent CityArts shoot with The Vardis in North Bend, WA was very inspiring. Ive always loved creative couples but they were definitely one of the most amazing I have had the pleasure of meeting. Recently relocating from NYC, both are classical master musicians who have been very well respected. Lenore and Manny (whose now 93 years old) are also both fine art painters. Specializing in oil painting. Even in their older age after years of achievements both are still deeply in love and pushing each other to create more art and show their passion in gallery's, publications, and online.
I thought id share a few creative couples work I really enjoy of different mediums.
First off..Photography:
I have been a huge fan of these two for years. They make it all look so effortless and beautiful. From lifestyle shots and Polaroids to commercial ad's and celebrities portraits.
Jeremy & Claire Weiss out of LA

Industrial Design:
Creating gorgeous products that not only look amazing, but are both functional and many are eco-friendly.
Mike and Maaike out of San Francisco

Film Set Design:
These two have been creating the scenes and visual images we remember from such amazing visual films as Pulp Fiction, Rushmore, Royal Tennanbaums and most recently, Inglorious Bastards.
Dave & Sandy Wasco

and last but not least.. I too am lucky enough to be in an amazing creative couple relationship. My Katie does both industrial design as well as her recent Jewelry Endeavor's

Space Needle

I love Seattle. Found this image online. Taken and scanned from some 1962 Worlds Fair Pamphlet.
