Portland Mercury/Seattle Stranger/Keep It Light

Had the oppurtunity to travel down south to my home away from home Portland, OR. Shooting our Seattle Stranger's sister paper s (The Portland Mercury) Spring Fashion Issue: Open Season Article.

This was a fun shoot although it definitely turned into more of a challenge/adventure than we had planned. After getting to our original scouted location up in the sketchy winding logging roads to find a freak May 1st snowstorm we had to find an all new location (Stylist wasnt digging the Snow Filled Spring Vibe) and start shooting much later than planned. Even with the mishaps/NW weather, I'm happy with what we pulled off. No the guns were not my idea..nor my favorite idea but it was fun to watch Jay (The Owner) shoot them in the woods.

Also feels really cool to see my good friend/Keep It Light Collective member Lauren Max getting this week's Seattle Stranger cover. Featuring a photo of none other than our fellow KIL member Ryan Furbush . Good things are happenin! cheers to more and more!

Behind The Scenes

Kyle Johnson X Sway from Phillip Conover on Vimeo.

My good friend Phillip Conover was nice enough to come shoot video during a 2 day extensive shoot with SWAY.com (Launch coming soon). Aside from the Video we used for the job itself, he through together this little behind the scenes video. I'm not a huge fan of being filmed/shot myself but I cannot deny its fun to look back at this shoot. Thanks Phil! And to Nas/Melodie for assisting all weekend on that shoot.

Mia Loomba Design

Its always cool to see people progress and moving forward with their goals in their own field. Mia Loomba reached out to me over a year ago about shooting her final outfits for her 2010 AIS Fashion Design Graduation. It was cool to shoot for someone who has followed my work the last few years and felt like it was the right fit for her own designs. Here is a few from the first half of our shoot. Worked with Giselle again who is always a pleasure and such a young talent.

Carré

Carré was one of the first models that really "jumped" out at me via other peoples flickr streams. My friends Lou & Laura have both shot her many a time and her natural beauty and unique look always amazes me. She would never claim to be a model however and her true calling is music. Check out her tunes at the official Queen Kwong Website. Thanks to my brother Nick, I found and got access to a really unique, gorgeous Mid Century Modern Home in the Encino Hills. I set up a shoot for my trip down to socal with Carré as well as Lou Obedlam,Laura Taylor, & Amanda.

The following are the rest of my favorites from the set of Carré. I envisioned a 1950's inspired "Lonely Housewife day alone" kind of vibe. I love the results, even the more anonymous compositions that don't highlight her striking face. Big thanks to Gwen for the Dress's & Kristina for the makeup.

Seattle Met/Laser Nature

I was super cxcited to see this morning that Katies Jewlery & my photos made it on the Seattle Metropolitan Style Blog. I love Lauras Blog. It gives a great look at Seattles Fashion Scene that is often under-rated.

4 Digitals from last weeks Church Shoot. Super happy with the results and the rad team I assembled for the day. Really antsy to get the film back. I had been excited for this shoot since finding the location riding my bike quite awhile back.

Clise Mansion Video

This past January's Clise Mansion Photoshoot was something I planned and organized to bring fellow friends/photographers together with a bunch of models/makeup artists/clothing stylists and each capture our own take on the property. Patrick Wright made a behind the scenes video documenting the day. Month's after thinking the footage was lost. he found it.. and thus here is the video! You can see all the shot's HERE
